It's About Time - Day One

This is scary, but it has to be done.

As of two days ago, I weighed in at 216 lbs at the doctor's office. In my defense, I was wearing shoes and clothes so I'm probably closer to 214 lbs, but let's go with 216 as a starting point. Pathetic, but there's a number to hang my hat on. My BMI is also 35.9, which is considered obese. Eep! So, my initial major goal is to get my BMI in the "overweight" category. That means getting down to 179 lbs. Also known as losing 37 lbs. Yikes.

In order to make things less daunting, I'm looking to get under 200 lbs again, which means losing 17 lbs.

My "lifetime" goal is closer to 145 lbs, which would put me at the top of the healthy BMI range for my height (5'5). That's about a 70 lb weight loss. Let's cross that bridge when we get to it, shall we?

I've struggled with my weight since middle school, but the real reason I think I'm starting up a public blog about my continuous fight against it is that my blood pressure was also measured at an all-time personal high at 134/79. Pretty scary.

So, the plan is to see the doctor this Wednesday and talk about some options for losing weight. Obviously, this is going to involve an exercise and dieting plan, but I'd like to actually speak to someone in the medical field about the best plan for me. And possibly see a nutritionist? Who knows?

As for this blog, I'm not sure if I'm going to journal what I eat every day (though, I know it's a best practice for someone trying to lose weight, it really begins to frustrate me after a few days). However, for today, I think I'll just go ahead and give an estimation at what I've eaten today. I'd like to steer away from including calories, though, because figuring that out gives me an honest-to-God headache.

I'm currently sick with a sinus infection, which means I'm taking antibiotics and steroids while, perhaps having to do with nothing, might be worth mentioning. I couldn't sleep last night due to a headache, so I didn't fall asleep until 6am and woke up at noon. So, "breakfast," in this instance, isn't necessarily so.

Breakfast - noon
Honey Nut Cheerios (didn't measure, but I'd imagine it was like a cup and a half)
2% milk (not measured, but probably 1 cup)
Medium-sized banana
Crazy Richard's natural creamy peanut butter (did not measure)

Lunch - 4:00pm
Leftovers of eggplant florentine over angel hair pasta (did not measure, but probably 1 1/2 to 2 cups worth)
Chobani flip greek yogurt with honey

Dinner - 8:15pm
Arnold's Multi-Grain bread, 2 slices
Crazy Richard's natural creamy peanut butter (did not measure)
Smuckers blackberry jam (did not measure)
Acai Mango Zinger tea, 1 cup

I do try to drink as much water a day as possible, so I don't usually measure it because I'm sure it's enough. If not, I guess that's one of those things the doc and I will talk about.

Exercise
5 burpees, in an attempt to do the 30 day burpee challenge.

I guess that's it for now. Cross your fingers I can keep up with all of this!
